The Dallas Mavericks fired embattled general manager Nico Harrison on Tuesday. Harrison couldn't survive the intense anger that fans had been throwing at him for months, ever since the Luka Doncic trade. Now, the search begins for Harrison's replacement.
There is already some scuttlebutt over who will take the job, and try to set the franchise back on the right course. The Mavericks' top influential voices appear to be locking in on a candidate.
“There has already been a push among some of the organization's influential voices to try to bring back former Harrison adviser Dennis Lindsey from Detroit, sources tell The Stein Line, but Dallas is first expected to install an interim front office after Harrison's departure,” Marc Stein reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Lindsey currently serves as Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Detroit Pistons. Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont is meeting with the team on Tuesday to inform them of the change, Stein also reported in a separate post.
Dallas is just 3-8 this season, and fell on Monday to the Milwaukee Bucks. During the Mavericks-Bucks game on Monday, Dallas fans shouted “Fire Nico.” It was an awkward situation, as the now former GM looked on into space from his seat.
Mavericks fans were also heard shouting for the general manager's firing, as they were spilling out into the streets from the arena.
Nico Harrison's tenure with the Mavericks ended in frustration

Harrison was the architect of the trade last season that sent Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. While that was a multi-player trade, Dallas' big piece in return was veteran Anthony Davis.
Doncic has since played very well for the Lakers, while Davis has struggled with injuries in Dallas. That trade sent Mavericks fans into a frenzy, and the anger hasn't cooled since. It appeared inevitable that the Mavericks would have to make a change at the general manager position.
Time will tell who replaces Harrison moving forward. Dallas next plays the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night.
