It is difficult to understate the importance of a glue guy. Although their impact is virtually nonexistent on the court, keeping the energy high on the bench and in the locker room is crucial for a team's success. Glue guys are a central factor in a team's synergy, and a team's synergy is critical for long-term production. Theo Pinson has served as the Dallas Mavericks' glue guy for the past season, and will remain at his post for at least one more.

Pinson has resigned with the Mavs on a one-year deal, per Woj. After being brought in on a two-way deal with the Mavs and their G League affiliate, the Texas Legends, Pinson has earned himself a permanent role on the Mavs. His bench antics are likely the motivating factor for Dallas' front office to resign him.

The 26-year-old guard took the court in just 19 times in the 2022 regular season. He averaged 2.5 points in 7.8 minutes per game. Regardless, he still became a Mavs fan favorite. Pinson regularly wreaked havoc on opposing teams from the bench. Calling out coverages, celebrating and heckling opponents allowed Pinson to make his impact felt without minutes.

That type of determination to contribute to winning obviously convinced the Mavs to bring Pinson back. As Dallas looks to inch deeper and deeper in the postseason bracket each season, Pinson's antics may go from October to July next season.

With changes to Dallas' front court, specifically the loss of rising guard Jalen Brunson to the Knicks, Pinson may even take an elevated role with the Mavs next season. Pinson re-upping with Dallas may turn out to be an underrated offseason move.
