Mavs All-Star Dirk Nowitzki has announced that this will he his last season of service in the NBA. In lieu of this fact, fans of opposing teams have been showing the German-born star their appreciation.

The Mavs were on the road for Monday night's game against the Nets. Like many other fanbases around the league have chose to do, the patrons inside the Barclays Center rose to their feet in ovation to recognize Nowitzki.

Dallas is a solid team, but they've struggled to find a rhythm this season. Monday was simply not their night. In fact, it was one of their worst performances in recent history. When the final horn blew, the scoreboard read 127-88.

“It was ugly from start to finish,” Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle told ESPN. “When you lose every quarter in an NBA game, you certainly haven't done what you needed to do, so very disappointing night.”

Nowitzki, now 40 years of age, says he appreciates the love from fans, but he also noted that he prefers to win.

“So I am really appreciative,” Nowitzki told ESPN. “I enjoy it, but I enjoy winning a little better.”

Dirk logged 19 minutes in Monday's loss, scoring four points, four rebounds and two assists.

Nowitzki and the Mavs (27-36 and 4th in the Southwest Division standings) will be back in action on Wednesday night, when they'll face off against the Washington Wizards inside Capital One Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
