Dallas Mavericks icon Dirk Nowitzki will return in the frontlines of NBA action, but as much as Mavs fans would want to turn back the clock and see a prime Dirk play for the COVID-ravaged team, he won't be doing his one-legged fadeaway. Instead, he will be offering some awesome commentary.

As Brad Townsend of Dallas Morning News reported, Nowitzki will debut as a TV analysts for Bally Sports Southwest alongside veteran broadcaster Mike Followill. He'll be in action in the Mavs' game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday at the American Airlines Center.

Dirk Nowitzki's presence will certainly bring excitement to an already frustrating day for the Mavs even before the game started. After all, Dallas will be without their superstar in Luka Doncic, who is still dealing with a lingering ankle injury.

Additionally, they are also down four players due to health and safety protocols. Reggie Bullock, Josh Green, Maxi Kleber and Tim Hardaway Jr. have all been ruled out after entering the COVID-19 list, with the Mavs now forced to sign a replacement player under the hardship exemption.

With Dirk Nowitzki doing broadcast, at least Mavs fans have something to look forward to. Dallas have dropped to 14-15 on the season, having lost their last two games, and have now fallen outside the playoff picture.
