Kristaps Porzingis put up a measly nine points in the Dallas Mavericks' loss to the Indiana Pacers on Sunday. The Latvian big man noted that if he had been more productive, the Mavs could have snagged the victory.
In the Mavs' heartbreaking 112-109 defeat, Porzingis shot 3-of-17 from the field, 0-of-5 from deep and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. He also had eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and four turnovers. This might be his most unproductive game this season given that he played 38 minutes.
Porzingis, shaking his head: "I mean, 3 for 17? … I feel like if I had just a little bit of a better game, the result would’ve been different.”

From the looks of it, consistency seems to be a problem for the 24-year-old. A look at his game log reveals that he's well capable of putting up 20 to 30 points per game. However, there are a few games where he just struggles from the floor and puts up single digits in points.
Luckily for the Mavs, Tim Hardaway Jr. filled the offensive void by chipping in 30 points. But again, it wasn't enough as the Pacers still got away with the victory.
Critics immediately tagged the Mavs as the team to watch out for in the future when Porzingis joined them last year. With Luka Doncic in the fold, the Rick Carlisle-led squad experienced a jumpstart in the rebuilding process. They currently sport a 39-26 record for seventh in the West and will likely make their first playoff appearance since the 2015-16 season.
Despite the bad night for Kristaps Porzingis, Mavs fans still have a lot to be excited about for what's left in the 2019-20 season and in the coming years. Porzingis, Doncic, and the rest of the team will only get better with experience. Once they develop that chemistry, they will be hard to stop.
