It appears that Dallas Mavericks rising star Luka Doncic might be able to make his return to the court sooner than expected.

According to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News, the Mavs youngster might be in line to take the floor again soon after Christmas:

The right ankle sprain that Doncic suffered Saturday night was diagnosed, according to a Mavericks source, as “moderate.” The source told The News that Doncic almost certainly will miss Dallas’ four games leading into Christmas, but might be able to return soon after that.

This is certainly some great news for the Mavs, as they appear to have dodged a bullet here. Doncic rolled his ankle pretty badly on Saturday in a loss against the Miami Heat, and there was some initial fear that this injury would result in a lengthy layoff for the 20-year-old stud. However, as confirmed by the above report and from another report, the issue seems to be minor, and Doncic should be able to make his comeback sooner rather than later.

This is also quite a favorable update for the rest of the basketball world, considering how tremendous Doncic has been to start the campaign. His play has been nothing short of amazing, and it would have been an absolute shame if he were to miss out on a significant chunk of what has been a historic season for him due to an injury.

In his absence, though, the rest of his teammates will need to hold down the fort as the Mavs look to keep the third-best record in the Western Conference. This will start with an extremely tough test on Monday, as they take on no less than reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the 24-3 Milwaukee Bucks.
