Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban believes the actual valuations of NBA franchises are higher than what Forbes typically estimates. The Mavs are valued at $2.4 billion by Forbes. Their media partners are Fox Sports Southwest and ESPN 103.3 in Dallas.

NBA franchises are valued at $2.12 billion on average, which is up 475 percent from a decade ago:

“Any unique asset is worth what someone will pay for it,” Cuban told Bill Shea of The Athletic. “That said, most NBA teams and their arenas make money. When interest rates are low, as they have been for so long, the cash flows can justify these valuations and higher.

“Add to that the value of any ancillary projects, real estate, development projects, whatever, and of course the vanity and branding value, and I think today … and of course things can change … but today NBA teams are undervalued. Considerably undervalued.”

The Mavs have sold out more than 800 straight games, including playoffs, at American Airlines Arena. The streak, which began in 2001, is the second longest in NBA history behind the Portland Trail Blazers.

Dallas hasn't won a playoff series since their 2011 NBA title, but Mavs fans are all in on second-year sensation Luka Doncic. The 2018-19 Rookie of the Year helped the Mavs post the NBA's biggest gain on TV last year with ratings up 88 percent on Fox Sports Southwest.

This year's Mavs are 39-26. They are in seventh place in the Western Conference standings and should make the postseason barring a late season collapse.
