Dallas Mavericks forward Luka Doncic is the frontrunner to win the Rookie of the Year award after his stellar performance in the 2018-19 season. Despite this, however, the Mavs rising star can't help himself from having butterflies in his stomach.

Team owner Mark Cuban said that he and Doncic are both nervous for Monday's NBA Awards show, but he added that the latter is a little bit more pressured.

“I’m kind of nervous,” Cuban told Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News. “Luka is a little bit nervous, too.”

Should Doncic win, he will be the second rookie in Mavs history to get the award. The first is Hall of Famer Jason Kidd back in 1995.

Doncic averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists last season. He is also the most consistent rookie among his draft class. His fellow nominees for the Rookie of the Year honors, Atlanta Hawks' Trae Young and Phoenix Suns' DeAndre Ayton, didn't flourish until the second half of the season.

Still, Luka does not want to be overconfident about winning the most prestigious award for rookies. For him, win or lose, that will not define the entirety of his career.

However, the bottom line is, no rookie was more phenomenal last season than the 20-year-old Slovenian. He was a fan favorite, a crowd darling and a household name — he even almost made it to the All-Star Game. It would be shocking if he ends up losing the ROY.

NBA Awards show is on June 24 at 9:00 pm ET. It will be hosted by Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal.
