Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic suffered a moderate right ankle sprain in the first quarter of the Mavs' home matchup against the Miami Heat this past Saturday.
X-rays on Doncic's ankle returned negative. Now, Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle says Doncic is off crutches and “responding well” to treatment.

Dallas will obviously be cautious with Doncic moving forward since he's the new franchise player. He has appeared in 25 games this season for the Mavs, averaging 29.3 points, 9.6 rebounds and 8.9 assists while shooting 48.1 percent from the field, 32.6 percent from beyond the arc and 80.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The Mavs are 17-8 on the season, good for third in the tough Western Conference. Kristaps Porzingis will have to carry the load on offense while Doncic is out. KP is putting up 16.8 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists in his first season with Dallas.
