Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic is working hard to improve his game this summer, and he recently put himself to the test by participating in an open gym scrimmage. Needless to say, Doncic was impressive:

Last season, Doncic already held his ground against some of the league's best players, so dominating in an open run is no surprise.

Doncic was hailed as the 2018-19 Rookie of the Year, as he posted averages of 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.0 assists. Although he failed to lead the Mavs to the playoffs, he clearly showed a tremendous amount of promise, which was enough for him to be considered the next face of the franchise. Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis will try to get Dallas back to the playoffs in 2019-20.

The Mavs are really excited to see Doncic's improvements. There are still some areas of his game he needs to work on, particularly his 3-point shooting and defense. It is worth noting he's still just 20 years old, so his ceiling at this point seems limitless.

But Dallas is willing to be patient with Doncic. They understand that they aren't in the position to compete for a championship next season, so they will focus their attention on continuing to develop Luka, KP, and the rest of the young guys on the team. Making the playoffs will also be one of their main goals next season, and from there, the Mavs' quest to regain NBA supremacy will begin.
