The Dallas Mavericks are having one of their worst seasons in franchise history and are currently at the bottom of the standings with a 5-18 record. In order to turn around their fortunes, the team has been looking to make a move through the trade market and get a player who can help them win more games.

One of the assets they have and can use as a trade bait is their first round pick for next year's draft which is projected to be a top-five selection. However, Mavs owner Mark Cuban has made it clear that his team will only give it up for a top-five player in return.

The 58-year-old billionaire was asked about his high price for the pick and responded by referencing to the Dallas Cowboys' trade for Herschel Walker two decades ago.

“If Herschel Walker calls me up and says, ‘That's better than any deal I've ever been involved with.'”

Even with a very talented pool of players expected to make themselves available for next year's draft, Cuban's price tag for their draft pick can still be considered very expensive. With most of the better players in the league part of playoff teams, it will be hard to imagine the Mavericks getting what they want for their first-rounder.

The situation in Dallas is definitely something worth monitoring and it will be interesting to find out if Cuban will stick to his high demand or if he will lower it down in order to get a player that can contribute to the Mavericks' cause immediately.
