The Denver Nuggets have signed Nick Young, the team announced Monday morning. Young had been without a team after winning a championship with the Golden State Warriors last season.
The Nuggets are riddled with injuries, with Paul Millsap recently breaking his toe and Gary Harris set to miss close to a month with a hip injury. Denver is also still without Will Barton, Isaiah Thomas, Michael Porter Jr. and Jarred Vanderbilt, so Young is being signed using a hardship exception. The Nuggets have also waived Brandon Goodwin:

Denver signed Young using an Injury Exception because they are currently down 6 players (Barton, Harris, Millsap, Porter Jr, Thomas and Vanderbilt).

Nick Young was signed with the hardship exception in Denver. The contract is non-guaranteed with a salary of $1.65M and cap hit of $1.04M. In addition, Denver will have a $66K cap charge for Brandon Goodwin who the team requested waivers on.

Young appeared in 80 regular-season games for the Warriors last season, averaging 7.3 points in 17.4 minutes per game while shooting 37.7 percent from 3-point range. He also made 20 postseason appearances as Golden State won back-to-back titles, but he was mostly ineffective and barely shot over 30 percent from the field in 10.3 minutes per contest.
Still, the 33-year-old Young is a proven shooter who can help the Nuggets stem the tide of all these injuries. He's a career 37.6 percent shooter from 3-land, and he can help space the floor off the bench.
Denver currently sits at 17-9 on the season, which is good for the third slot in the Western Conference. The Nuggets have lost two in a row, though, and the upcoming schedule is tough. The next game is Monday against the Memphis Grizzlies, followed by games against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers. Luckily, the first four of these five games are in the Mile High City.
