The Denver Nuggets just spent big on Aaron Gordon. The athletic swingman signed a four-year, $92 million extension that keeps him in the Mile High city throughout his prime. But one question asked by some would be how this deal affects his frontcourt partner Michael Porter Jr.?
The short answer? It doesn't. That's according to NBA insider Keith Smith. After commenting on the deal the Nuggets locked Gordon into, one fan opined that the massive figure could affect what Denver will eventually offer MPJ.
Denver gave Aaron Gordon a touch more than I would have liked. But, way more importantly, they are going for it. And that's awesome. Seeing a team that is close to title contention loading up and paying for it is great for the league. Good for the Nuggets, their players and fans!

Smith then retorted that Michael Porter Jr.'s contract with the Nuggets is a “basically done”.

For Nuggets fans, that's definitely music to their ears. With MPJ showing clear flashes of All-Star potential, it would've been unwise to compromise their future negotiations with him for Gordon, who is a high-end role player at best.
The Denver Nuggets looked poised to contend for the title last season before the unfortunate injury to playoff behemoth Jamal Murray. Now with Murray expected back alongside Nikola Jokic and an apparently soon-to-be-locked up Michael Porter Jr., they have nowhere to go but up.
Locking in Aaron Gordon gives them an athletic body that fits their timeline. Gordon caught flak for struggling during the postseason, but that was his first taste of postseason action that actually mattered (sorry, Orlando Magic fans). With another year to get used to playing with the Joker, things can only get better for the 25-year-old. Having your money locked down certainly helps as well.
