One of the most coveted free agents of the summer, Paul Millsap found the market for him shrinking as other free agents came off the board and verbally agreeing to deals with teams. The former Atlanta Hawks‘ forward had a number of suitors including the Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, and the Denver Nuggets.

One by one, suitors fell out of contention for Millsap, and the forward came to an agreement with the Nuggets on Sunday night on a three-year, $90 million deal. As one of the top free agents on the market, one would think the Hawks would at least like to retain the services of their All-Star. That wasn't the case, however, because Millsap was apparently not even offered a contract.

“It was pretty simple,” Millsap told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday. “Denver, they came and they’ve been wanting me for years. They made that known. The presentation that they gave me, it felt comfortable, it felt real. At the end of the day it was going to be the team that I felt most comfortable with and Atlanta. Atlanta decided to go another direction. They didn’t want to make an offer. So it was pretty simple. Denver was the team.”

Following a successful four year stint with the Hawks in which Millsap made the All-Star team four times while averaging 17.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game, Millsap was disappointed to have not even received an offer.

“Definitely disappointing,” Millsap said. “I thought I meant a bit more than that to them. But it is what it is. I’m happy with the decision I’ve made. I’m happy with the team I’m with. I’m ready to get it going with them.”

Now, Millsap gets a fresh start with a team that's hunting to make the playoffs and one that really wants him. He'll have much more competition in the heavily competitive Western Conference.
