Detroit Pistons veteran point guard Reggie Jackson recently opened up about the struggles he has had to endure throughout his career. According to the 29-year-old, the many injuries he has suffered once pushed him to the brink of a very early retirement:
“A few years back, I thought (my future) was retirement after this season,” Jackson told Rod Beard of The Detroit News. “I’m just happy to be in a good state of mind and playing ball this year. We’ll figure (the future) out from there. I’m excited about what we can possibly do this year.”
“I was just getting injured too much and I had hit basketball depression and it was a point in time that I really didn’t want to deal with the game anymore,” he explained. “It was more the injuries that started to have that (retirement) thought creep in my head.”
Last season, Jackson played in all 82 games for the Pistons, which is definitely a great indication of his health. Hopefully, the former Boston College standout is able to steer clear of injuries moving forward, especially considering the fact that this 2019-20 NBA season will be a very important campaign for him, as he enters the final year of his five-season deal with Detroit.
