The NCAA season is not even a month old and Duke big man Marvin Bagley III is already making history in Durham. After dropping 34 points and 15 rebounds against fellow top prospect Mohamed Bamba and Texas, Bagley dropped 30 and 15 against a No. 7-ranked Florida team to help the No. 1 Blue Devils claim the Motion Bracket of the Phil Knight Invitational.

With those two outstanding performances, Bagley became the first player in Duke’s storied history to record 30-plus points and 15-plus rebounds in back-to-back games.

Bagley, a 6-foot-11 freshman, is being projected as a possible top overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft, and he’s showing why with those truly dominant performances over top opposition. He’s simply a gifted athlete who can do a little bit of everything on the basketball court.

The current front-runners for the top pick in the draft — the Chicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks, and Dallas Mavericks — could all use a super-talented young big man like Bagley, who should be at or near the top of their big boards right about now.

The college basketball season is still young but at the rate he’s going at the moment, Marvin Bagley III figures to be one of the first, if not the first, to be called by Adam Silver in Chicago.
