Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie is expecting teammate Kevin Durant to get a big welcome during his first visit to the state-of-the-art Chase Center in San Francisco. The former Golden State Warriors star is bound to make his return on Thursday, and Dinwiddie is expecting some tributes to come:
“They better give him all the tribute videos in the world,” said Dinwiddie, according to Mark Medina of USA TODAY Sports. “He got them two championships.”
The Warriors are still unclear whether Durant plans to attend or not, as all the preparations are still up in the air. At first, Durant was rumored to not attend the road trip, whereas Nets coach Jacque Vaughn recently said Durant will be coming along.
Golden State is still even unsure if people will be in the building for Thursday's game, considering Wednesday's call between the NBA and the 30 team representatives could result in drastic changes due to the coronavirus. Among them, playing in empty arenas is a strong possibility.
Article Continues BelowDurant won two titles and two Finals MVP trophies during his three years in Golden State — decorations that should make his return well-received, despite his awkward parting of ways this past offseason after he suffered a devastating Achilles injury in last year's NBA Finals.
Yet there is a lot of incertitude going around when it comes to Thursday's game between the Warriors and Nets, first regarding how the NBA will choose to handle the coronavirus outbreak, and second whether Durant plans to travel to The Bay along with the team.
Should both things line up, it's likely Durant will get plenty of appreciation from a franchise that has yet to have any gripes about his stint with the team, even if Warriors owner Joe Lacob still isn't totally sure why the star forward left for Brooklyn.
