Reigning back-to-back Finals MVP Kevin Durant seems to be quite fond of using the snake reference these days. This time around though, it's in a wholly different context, as the 29-year-old deployed the snake emoji in response to Golden State Warriors teammate DeMarcus Cousins' social media request.

Cousins recently shared a photo on Instagram of rapper Drake dawning Cousins' John L. LeFlore High School jersey. The school's basketball team was called the Rattlers, which is why Cousins asked his followers to drop the snake emoji as a shoutout to his fellow LeFlore HS alumni.

The irony here is that many people consider Cousins to be a “snake” himself for teaming up with the Golden State Warriors, after the Dubs eliminated his team, the New Orleans Pelicans, in the second round of last year's Playoffs. Although Cousins was unavailable throughout the series due to an Achilles injury, the offseason move still prompted tons of negative feedback.

While others have judged Cousins' decision to be an ultimate showing of betrayal, it is simply dwarfed by Kevin Durant's shocking transfer two years ago. The circumstances were almost exactly the same, with Durant jumping ship from the Oklahoma City Thunder after they were defeated by the Warriors in Game 7 of the 2016 Western Conference Finals.

All these factors put together are what make this Instagram exchange such a goldmine. Both Cousins and Durant have used this opportunity to poke fun not only on all the haters but a little bit on themselves as well.
