The Golden State Warriors had a vintage performance in their series-clinching victory over the Houston Rockets in Game 6. The two-time defending champs closed out their toughest rivals without a major chess piece in Kevin Durant, who will be re-evaluated in a week due to calf strain he sustained in Game 5.

With Durant set to possibly miss a couple of games in the Western Conference Finals, Warriors guard Klay Thompson promised that they will hold down the fort while their best scorer is out, per Michael Scotto of The Athletic. Despite seemingly doing fine without him, Thompson, though, would much rather have KD on the floor.

Nevertheless, it sure didn't seem like the defending champions missed Durant.

Thompson had one of his classic Game 6 performances last night. He scored 27 points on 10-of-20 shooting – including 7-of-13 from beyond the arc. The two-way star kept the Warriors afloat throughout the first half with his scintillating shot making from deep.

The Dubs needed every bit of the 21 points he scored in the first half, as fellow Splash Brother Stephen Curry had an abysmal first 24 minutes of play.

Curry went scoreless, did not make a field goal, and had three fouls through the first half. But the two-time MVP turned it around in the second half.

He scored all of his 33 points after the intermission, 23 of which came in a virtuoso fourth quarter performance that shut the door on Houston's season. Curry hit big shot after big shot down the stretch in the fourth quarter, including three huge triples to silence the Houston crowd.

Thompson's three-pointer to put the Warriors up six with over a minute remaining proved to be the dagger in the Rockets' collective hearts.

The Warriors now await the winner of Game 7 between the Portland Trailblazers and the Denver Nuggets.
