A Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry rookie card has just sold for $616,000, according to TMZ, making it the richest piece of Curry memorabilia.
Golden Auctions orchestrated the deal for the card, which is signed by Curry. What makes the item so rare? Well, it is apparently one of just 25 ever made, per TMZ:
As for why … the card is insanely rare — it's 1 of only 25 ever made, and its 9.5 grade gives it nearly a perfect 10 score for its edges, centering and signature.
The card also features a landmark on the patch — part of Curry's number appears to be visible on the swatch — which makes the piece even MORE valuable to card enthusiasts.
The Golden State Warriors certainly hoped Curry would be a star when they selected him with the seventh overall pick n the 2009 NBA Draft, though the Dubs might not have imagined he would transform the NBA.
Curry has been a transcendent player, becoming a two-time MVP–including the first unanimous MVP in league history–and spearheading the NBA's movement to being a perimeter-centric league.
This rookie card probably reminds Warriors fans of Curry's journey from “Baby Faced Assassin” to multiple-time champion.

Other fan bases, like the Minnesota Timberwolves, are likely horrified thinking about what could have been. Minnesota drafted Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn with back-to-back picks. The Flynn pick was especially confusing.
New York Knicks fans also lament the fact one of the greatest players of this generation was taken just before they were on the board. The Knicks ended up with Jordan Hill in that '09 Draft. Far from ideal.
In any event, Curry's brand continues to rise, with one of his rare rookie cards going for a record price.
