The Golden State Warriors are in an awkward spot where they want to win right now and develop young guys that are key pieces for their future. While making an appearance on The Ringer NBA Show, Steve Kerr revealed how the Dubs have attempted to balance winning and developing young players.

Of course, when you're a team that made five NBA Finals appearances (three wins) from 2014 to 2019, you always have your sights on winning a championship. At the same time, the Warriors still have Stephen Curry and Draymond Green leading the team.

However, the injury to Klay Thompson–causing him to miss his second consecutive season–took the wind out of Golden State's sails for the 2020-21 campaign. After taking James Wiseman in the 2020 NBA Draft, everyone was curious to see what direction the Warriors were heading in with Thompson going down.

Through their first 43 games in the season, the Warriors currently have a 22-21 record, which is good enough for the No. 9 seed in the competitive Western Conference. Even though Golden State is trying to sneak back into the playoffs after missing the postseason in 2019-20, Steve Kerr knows that the development of the young players is still important.

Wiseman is still trying to find consistency in his rookie season with the Warriors amid an unusual year that is taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, guys like Andrew Wiggins, Kelly Oubre Jr., Damion Lee, and Jordan Poole are all trying to discover their roles on the team.

With Golden State teetering on the playoff bubble, Kerr understands the Warriors are in a peculiar spot with their current roster. For what it's worth though, the youngsters have been showing flashes of brilliance that should bode well for the team's mission this campaign and their future.
