Going through an extended losing streak is something Marc Gasol is not used to given the success that the Memphis Grizzlies have had over the past years. This season has been different though, as the team has been struggling to string wins together, and have lost 14 of their last 15 games.

That includes their loss to the Toronto Raptors on Friday, where they gave up a double-digit lead in the second half, and eventually lost, 116-107. Marc Gasol was asked to give his thoughts about how they played on the night, and he expressed, via Devin Walker of 929 ESPN, how baffled he is with his team's efforts. He then cited how his teammates became lazy, and did not have the sense of urgency to win.

ā€œNot in the second half, because we started thinking about ourselves too much. Oh, this guy missed me, or this guy didn’t pass me the ball, or this guy didn’t help me. We started making too many excuses. And then we got a little bit lazy. We didn’t have no urgency. I don’t understand, when you lost – what was it? – 12 out of 13 games, how guys can’t have urgency. That, to me, is mind-boggling.ā€

While the absence of Mike Conley due to injury is also a big reason for their slump, Marc Gasol believes they had a good chance of winning some games even without their starting point guard. As it turned out, they now own the second-worst record in the Western Conference, and do not appear like the playoff team they've been the past seven seasons.

If there's any silver lining for the Grizzlies at this point, they still have 52 games left on their schedule to turn things around. However, they should start winning games soon to avoid digging themselves a hole too deep for them to climb out of, and still have the opportunity to contend for a playoff spot.
