Heading into his 10th season in the league with the Memphis Grizzlies, there has been much uncertainty around Marc Gasol's long-term future with the team.
According to Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal, Gasol stated during the Grizzlies Media Day on Monday that he has a strong desire to remain in Memphis for the long haul.
“For sure,” Gasol said. “I’m very fortunate to do what I do and represent the city that I love. I’ve been here now for 10 years with this team. I’m really happy.”
All of this chatter around Gasol originated from him voicing that he would consider playing elsewhere if the organization has to continue to show growth moving forward. The Grizzlies have been a constant in the playoffs over the last several years with seven straight postseason appearances.

The organization has seemed to hit a plateau that has only been further emphasized by other teams in the conference taking major steps forward.
This was only further expanded upon with the likes of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Houston Rockets each making big splashes in the offseason to improve their respective teams. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies saw the departure of veterans Zach Randolph and Vince Carter with their only notable addition being Mario Chalmers.
With Gasol set to enter the third year of his five-year, $113.2 million deal that contains a player option for the final season, it could become a critically important campaign for the future of the franchise.
