Following his surprise firing from the Memphis Grizzlies, seeing David Fizdale once again on the sidelines of an NBA team remains a possibility, even as early as this season.

Prior to his first head coaching job with the Grizzlies, Fizdale was part of the Miami Heat staff, serving as an assistant coach. That said, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra made it known recently that he has retained a vacancy for his former assistant.

Since David Fizdale's move to the Grizzlies last year, the Heat’s staff has not been filled completely, with Keith Smart also leaving South Beach together with Fizdale. This leaves the team still in need of assistants for Spoelstra, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Fizdale is a well-loved individual within the Heat organization, having spent a lengthy amount of time with the franchise from 2008-2016. That led to him emerging as a strong candidate for the job in Memphis. His release stems from their current eight-game losing streak, which leaves them in 12th place in the Western Conference with a 7-12 record.

It remains to be seen if David Fizdale will accept an offer to return to Heat or not, but with how things ended between him and the Grizzlies, it won’t come as a surprise if he’ll take some time off first to weigh his options.

However, he’ll definitely find solace in knowing that the team that he was part of for more than eight years is more than willing to take him back.
