Since being let go by the Oklahoma City Thunder after one season, former All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony has zeroed in a couple of teams for his next stop in his NBA career.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Anthony is believed to be leaning toward either joining the Houston Rockets or Miami Heat next season.

“The Rockets will be a premium consideration for Anthony — along with the Miami Heat, league sources said.”

The Rockets are likely the leaders in the clubhouse for the 34-year-old given that the team has had some major roster movement at the small forward position with both their leading options in Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute deciding to sign elsewhere in free agency. This could be a prime opportunity for Anthony to step into a significant role in the starting lineup alongside their All-Star backcourt of reigning league MVP James Harden and Chris Paul.

Anthony is coming off a season where had a notable drop off in his production where he averaged 16.2 points on a career-low 40.4 percent shooting from the field and 35.7 percent from 3-point range along with 5.8 rebounds in 32.1 minutes per contest while starting in all 78 games played. Although his play has tallied off a bit, he is still a proven scorer that has the capability to be a huge asset offensively and has previous experience playing in head coach Mike D'Antoni's offense during his stint with the New York Knicks.

The Heat could also be a prime opportunity for him to prove himself once again in a prominent role. Miami is coming off a campaign where they reached the playoff and had a need for scoring in their starting lineup beyond All-Star point guard Goran Dragic. This is a chance for him to return to the Eastern Conference to play for a team on the rise. It should see this entire free agency process become quite quick for Anthony to reach a decision on his next landing spot.
