Indiana Pacers head coach Nate McMillan wants his team to play faster and shoot more 3-pointers next season.

The Pacers averaged 25.4 3's per game this season. That was 29th in the NBA. Indiana only made 9.5 3's per contest. That was also 29th in the league.

Without All-Star shooting guard Victor Oladipo, who was lost for the season after suffering a serious knee injury, the Pacers didn't have anyone on the roster who could break a defense down, get easy baskets at the rim and collapse defenses to free up shooters on the perimeter.

When the Pacers shot 3-pointers, they were effective. As a team, Indiana shot 37.4 percent from beyond the arc in 2018-19, which was good for fifth in the NBA. The Pacers were 24th in pace, though, which is an estimate of the number of possessions per 48 minutes (98.1).

Indiana needs more lane penetration and shooters. Veteran combo guard Tyreke Evans was supposed to be that slasher for the Pacers this season, but he wasn't a good fit in Indiana's system and probably won't be back next season. Evans becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer.

It's unknown when Oladipo will be cleared to play. The Pacers need to address their holes in free agency this summer.
