New York Knicks big man Kristaps Porzingis went down in obvious pain after dunking over Giannis Antetokounmpo during the second quarter of Tuesday night's 103-89 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks inside Madison Square Garden.
Porzingis writhed in pain, pounding his fist on the hardwood under the hoop. The former No. 4 overall pick in the 2014 Draft was then helped to the Knicks' locker room for further evaluation and testing, which later revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.

Porzingis is scheduled to have surgery within the next ten days, but just how long might it be before he's cleared for action? Let's take a look at the recovery times for players who have suffered the same injury in the past.

“Utah Jazz guard Dante Exum had surgery to repair a torn ACL and was sidelined 14 months. Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine was out 12 months with the same injury, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Derrick Rose was sidelined for 14 months, Utah's Ricky Rubio nine, and Milwaukee’s Jabari Parker returned last Friday after missing 11 months following a second ACL surgery on the same knee.”
Losing Porzingis is certainly a tough blow for the Knicks organization and their fans. Prior to his injury, the Latvian-born power forward was averaging 22.7 points on 43.9 percent shooting from the field (39.3 percent from beyond the arc), 6.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.
The Knicks, now the 4th-ranked team in the Atlantic Division standings with a 23-32 overall record, have lost four straight games. Their first shot at improvement comes on Thursday night, as they're scheduled to face the Toronto Raptors inside the Air Canada Centre. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. EST with the MSG Network having live broadcast coverage.
