Seems like everyone has an opinion about LaVar Ball, the father of Los Angeles rookie point guard Lonzo Ball. By yelling on an almost daily basis on the TV and making incredibly wild claims, LaVar has become a mainstream figure and a constant presence in every form of media available to mankind. In other words, he’s inescapable. Among LaVar’s favorite talking points is Lonzo, whom he has hyped so much that most people think it’s a reason why the former UCLA Bruin is underperforming.

New York Knicks center Enes Kanter shares that same notion. Speaking to Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News, Kanter pins some of the blame for Lonzo’s struggles on LaVar and his mouth.

“He has the potential to be a really good player. But I feel like his dad is putting too much pressure on him. That's why whoever plays against him just wants to kill him, just wants to beat him on that court, just because his dad is talking all that crazy stuff,” Knicks center Enes Kanter told the Daily News.

Kanter will get a first-hand look at Lonzo this Tuesday, when the Lakers travel to the Big Apple for a match against the Knicks. It would be Ball’s debut at the Madison Square Garden, so he should expect himself to be put under the microscope again.

For a rookie, Lonzo’s averages of 8.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game do not look all that bad, but they don’t quite match up with LaVar’s bluster. For all the fanfare LaVar has generated for his son, Lonzo is shooting just 32.1 percent from the field and a ghastly 24.6 percent from deep.
