The Los Angeles Clippers had perhaps the most impactful summer of any team in the NBA.
By swinging a blockbuster deal for swingman Paul George and signing NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers immediately vaulted themselves toward the top of the 2020 NBA title picture. Having officially introduced both Leonard and George earlier this week, the Clippers are already reaping the benefits of having two superstars on the roster.
According to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, the organization has already sold nearly double the amount of season tickets that they did last year:
But the superstars have helped the Clippers almost double the number of season tickets they have sold, from 5,200 last year to 10,000 so far this year. If the Clippers can win big, they can carry that kind of business momentum into the new arena they plan to open in Inglewood in 2024.
The Clippers were already one of the most intriguing teams in the Western Conference last season. After dealing Tobias Harris to the Philadelphia 76ers prior to the February deadline, Los Angeles went on a 18-9 run at the end of the regular season, earning the eighth seed in the West.
If not for a superlative first-round performance from Kevin Durant, the Clippers might have stunned the Golden State Warriors well before they even reached the NBA Finals.
Heading into the 2019-20 season, the Clippers return the majority of their rotation from last year. They re-signed veteran point guard Patrick Beverley, and essentially swapped out Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Danilo Gallinari for George and Leonard.
The Clippers already appear to be gaining steam on the Lakers as the premier team in Los Angeles, and they have the ticket sales to boot.
