Los Angeles Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank gave a health update on star small forward Paul George on Friday.
George underwent surgery to his right rotator cuff and left labrum after the 2019 playoffs ended. There’s no official timetable for the All-Star, but the current speculation is he'll miss at least a few games at the start of the regular season.
“He’s made great progress. He works his tail off. He’s been terrific… We've got a great performance, health and wellness staff. We kind of put it in their hands,” Frank told the media, per Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.
“He works extremely hard. He’s extremely excited & motivated. You guys have seen some of the stuff that’s been posted. He gets after it… We don’t talk about timetables. We leave it up to our medical staff to determine that.”
Paul George averaged 28.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists last season while shooting 43.8 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from beyond the arc and 83.9 percent from the free-throw line. The Clippers acquired PG13 from the Oklahoma City Thunder in a blockbuster trade this offseason.
The Clippers sent the Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, veteran forward Danilo Gallinari and five first-round picks for George, who is a six-time All-Star and one of the best two-way players in the NBA.
For the first time in franchise history, the Clippers are legitimate title contenders. Los Angeles has good depth on the roster, but they will ultimately go as far as Kawhi Leonard and George can guide them.
The Clippers will be cautious with George since there are 82 games in the regular season. It's not that big of a deal if George misses a few games here and there.
