Along the way of the blockbuster trade that happened Tuesday, somebody from the L.A. Clippers organization forgot to call Blake Griffin that he was going to be traded to the Detroit Pistons. Instead, the All-Star power forward found out from Twitter about the deal that sent him packing his bags to the Eastern Conference.

In an interview with ESPN’s Nick Friedel, Griffin says that his only wish was that he “had known or had the opportunity to talk to somebody beforehand. Finding out through Twitter through other people is a tough way to find out when you’ve been with a franchise for so long.”

Griffin knows that the NBA is a sport and he also understands that it’s a business. So how in the world was he not informed in a professional manner that he was being traded? Perhaps Griffin could talk about his experience with cornerback Kendall Fuller, who also realized late Tuesday that he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.

A source from the Clippers definitely leaked the information to the media as soon as the deal had been finalized. Even so, Griffin would have appreciated knowing that the franchise was rebuilding and that he was no longer in their future plans before the talks started.

During the summer of 2017, Blake Griffin was wooed by the team and promised that he was going to be a ‘lifelong Clipper.’ The elaborate presentation ended with Griffin signing a $171 million, five-year contract to stay with the Clippers, the only franchise he had known since he started his NBA career.

Now, Griffin is beginning anew in Detroit just months later. Despite the difficulty of starting over with a new team, he says that he’s excited about the opportunity “to play for an organization that wants me to play there and clearly this is an organization that wants me to play here. This is where I want to be.” Griffin says.

And you can quote him on Twitter for that.
