Rajon Rondo has a unique reason for why he's chasing a title with the Los Angeles Lakers. The NBA champion wants to become the first to win a title with the Boston Celtics and the Lakers. He told Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints that he wants to be:

“The first to win with the two most historic franchises that’s ever put the basketball to use.”

That's somewhat surprising that no player in NBA history has won a championship with both the Lakers and Celtics. It makes sense considering the teams have been bitter rivals throughout the history of the league. In the new era of player movement, this would seem much more likely, but the Celtics and Lakers have not dominated this decade as they have in previous eras.

But it's still surprising that no player in NBA history has achieved this feat. Rick Fox, Bob McAdoo, and Gary Payton are all players who played for Boston and Los Angeles. Rajon Rondo is the latest to join that exclusive group and he could have the best chance to follow through on his goals.

He's only on a one-year deal and the Warriors are overwhelming favorites to repeat, but there's a decent chance Rondo signs another one-year deal with the Lakers next season. At that point, LeBron James could have a second star to play alongside and the Lakers young corps could be a formidable force.

The chances that the Lakers win a championship this year aren't great, but if Rondo sticks around long enough, he could be the first player to win a title with the Celtics and the Lakers.
