Despite being the obvious choice for the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft, the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly still debating on whether to select Lonzo Ball or not.

With less than three weeks to go before the lottery, the team’s top brass are continuing to weigh their options and are also considering other players who they think can be a better fit to them, according to Chad Ford of ESPN. While Ball would give them solid playmaking skills and outside shooting, the Lakers are apparently intrigued with other draft prospects like Kentucky’s De’Aaron Fox and former Kansas Jayhawk Josh Jackson.

Earlier this year, the 19-year-old UCLA product was even projected to go as high as number one, but his stock is believed to have taken a hit following the antics of his father, LaVar Ball. Instead of letting his son's game speak for himself, the elder Ball has continued to draw a lot of negative publicity towards his son and their family.

However, the Lakers may also have other reasons why they are not sold on the idea of adding Lonzo Ball to their fold just yet. Already having D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson in their backcourt, it will be important for the team to bring in someone who can thrive playing alongside either of them, and also have the ability to play both guard spots.

It will very interesting to see how things will unfold for the Lakers and Ball come June 22nd, and their situation is definitely something worth keeping an eye on. Even with LaVar making it known he prefers seeing the 6-foot-6 point guard wear the Purple and Gold jersey, it will still be a matter of fit for the team.
