Since being selected with the second overall pick in this year's draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, rookie point guard Lonzo Ball has had quite a busy offseason away from the court.
Ball has been featured in a Facebook docu-series entitled “Ball in the Family” with his family, produced music, and even had his own signature shoe released. However, the 19-year-old recently told Bill Oram of the Southern California News Group that this hasn't impacted his focus on his NBA career.
“I look at it pretty simply,” Ball said Monday in an interview with the Southern California News Group. “Basketball is my passion, my job. The music thing is just a hobby so that’s fun, and then the show I’m just with my family. So it’s nothing out of the ordinary I don’t usually do.”
There has certainly been an increased attention toward Ball over the last several weeks but has yet to draw any ire from the organization in any fashion. In fact, the Lakers have been quite supportive of their rookie point guard throughout the entire process and that type of tone is likely to remain the same once training camp begins later this month.
Article Continues BelowIn regards to the Facebook docu-series, LaVar Ball voiced a slightly different tone stating that the Lakers have no say or input in how it is produced.
“Don’t nobody give me any parameters about nothing,” he said. “I’m my own person. Nobody be like, ‘LaVar, you can’t do this, you should do this.’ I don’t go with that. I’m good just how I am and nobody can tell me nothing because they’re not my boss.”
At the same, LaVar did indicate earlier this offseason that the Lakers did not grant him access to team-related situations. It has essentially been a series focused on his family's inner dealings and daily lifestyle.
There should be a greater sense of how Lonzo Ball's off-the-court life will affect his basketball career starting later this month.
