Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso has been ruled out of his team's game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night due to right calf tightness, according to Bill Oram of The Athletic.
Caruso has played in 32 games off the bench this season, averaging 5.4 points, two rebounds and 1.1 steals over 19.5 minutes per game while shooting 43 percent from the floor, 32.8 percent from three-point range and 76.3 percent from the free-throw line.
The 25-year-old Caruso, who played his collegiate basketball at Texas A&M, went undrafted but eventually signed a two-way contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder in September 2016.
His stint with the Thunder did not last very long, as the Thunder waived him the following month.

That ensuing offseason, Caruso inked a two-way contract with the Lakers and made his NBA debut that season, appearing in 37 games and making seven starts and registering 3.6 points and two assists across 15.2 minutes a night while making 43.1 percent of his field-goal attempts, 30.2 percent of his long-distance attempts and 70 percent of his foul shots.
Caruso played a similar role in Los Angeles last season, playing in 25 games and making four starts. During the time he was on the court, the College Station, Texas native recorded 9.2 points, 3.1 assists, 2.7 boards and one steal through 21.2 minutes per game, connecting on 44.5 percent of his shots, 48 percent of his triples and 79.7 percent of his free throws.
Caruso's solid production during the 2018-19 campaign earned him a two-year contract with the Lakers this past summer. He has established himself as a valuable piece of the rotation of a contending team.
The Lakers have won three games in a row and sit at the top of the Western Conference standings at 27-7.
