Back in December, the Los Angeles Lakers’ top brass talked to LaVar Ball, asking the infamous father of rookie point guard Lonzo Ball to ease off a little on making flammable remarks about the team, its front office, and its coaching staff.
While LaVar has toned down a bit, the Lakers seemed to have triggered a curse when they indirectly requested him to shut up. According to StatMuse, the Lakers have won just one of their next 11 games after that sit-down, or stay-in-yo-lane, meeting with LaVar.

The Lakers were also on a nine-game losing streak heading into Monday’s home game against the Atlanta Hawks, which they won convincingly.
Of course, there are basketball-pertinent explanations as to why the Lakers are on a skid. For one, their schedule this past December was just brutal. Over their last 12 games, they faced off with a number of title contenders in the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. It’s hard to weather that kind of schedule for any team in the NBA, let alone a young Lakers squad that also missed the services of Lonzo for some of those games due to a shoulder injury.
Los Angeles also own the worst defensive rating in the NBA over the last 10 games with 113.7 points allowed per 100 possessions to opponents. They have also allowed 111.7 points per game to opponents during that same stretch.
It will get worse before it gets better for the Lakers, who are currently wallowing at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a 12-27 record.
