The Los Angeles Lakers are likely to proceed with an abundance of caution when it comes to the health of Anthony Davis.
Davis left Sunday's game against the Denver Nuggets after aggravating his Achilles tendinitis. He is awaiting the results of an MRI that he had on Monday.
The Athletic spoke to Dr. Rajpal Brar, a physical therapist versed in lower body treatment. Brar said it is possible Davis could actually be dealing with tenosynovitis–inflammation of the sheath surrounding the tendon–based on comments the Lakers' star made last week:
“That’s a lot easier to handle because it’s just trying to manage the inflammation and irritation in that area,” Brar told The Athletic. “Whereas if there’s actual tendonosis, and breakdown of the tendon, then it can be a little bit more sensitive, and you’re worried about the actual structure of the tendon.”
Davis acknowledged after the game he has dealt with and played through injuries throughout his career. But he also noted the importance of treating this injury with extra care because of the sensitivity.

The Lakers figure to follow suit. Brar himself suggested Davis could be on the shelf for a more extended period of time, given the All-Star forward seems to keep having issues:
“That can indicate that even though he’s having these positive checks, he is more irritable, more sensitive than you might have thought, which, then, of course, gives you a little bit of pause and you have a more cautious approach this time,” Brar said, via The Athletic. “And so I think it’s gonna be multiple weeks.”
Los Angeles is not going to jeopardize Davis' future merely to attain regular season success.
Davis and the Lakers will evaluate after getting MRI results and decide how best to proceed going forward.
