Los Angeles Lakers small forward Kyle Kuzma scored a season-high 26 points on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks, helping LA defeat Dallas without superstar big man Anthony Davis.

Kuzma played 34 minutes against the Mavs. After the game, the Lakers swingman told Allie Clifton of Spectrum SportsNet that the more minutes he gets, the more comfortable he is on the floor:

“Every time I get big minutes, I produce the best I can. I’m a rhythm player and when I get a chance to keep that rhythm, my game shows.”

On the season, Kyle Kuzma is averaging 12.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game for the Lakers, who have the best record in the Western Conference. He is shooting 42.4 percent from the field, 34.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 76.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Inconsistency has marred what was initially expected as a big year for Kuzma. After being the last-man-standing out of the Lakers' young core, the hopes were high on his evolution as the third big piece of the puzzle alongside LeBron James and Davis.

Kuzma’s future with the Lakers has been in question ever since his trainer called out James. We’ll see if the Lakers end up making a deal involving Kuzma, who is still on his rookie contract. He’s making $1.9 million this season.

One NBA general manager who spoke to Sean Deveney of Heavy believes the Lakers will only trade Kuzma “if they’re getting a lot back.” There is significant potential in the former Utah Utes standout which means the Lakers are sure to receive calls about their young talent.
