The Los Angeles Lakers are extending a qualifying offer to Julius Randle officially making him a restricted free agent, according to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints. The Lakers will have the opportunity to match any offers Randle receives from other teams around the league.

Randle is sure to garner some interest amongst teams looking for a dynamic forward that can defend in space. The former seventh overall pick took a huge step forward this year. He improved his field goal percentage and notched a career-high 16.1 points per game this season. He had the best offensive season of his four-year career.

In addition to his offensive improvement, Randle has proven his durability after a lost rookie season due to a broken tibia he suffered in his first ever NBA game. In his last three seasons, he's played in 81 games, 74 games, and most recently, all 82 games. There shouldn't be any injury questions surrounding Randle moving forward.

The Lakers' big man with an incredible motor is sure to receive some interest around the league. Despite his inability to stretch the floor with a consistent jumper, Randle's ability to score inside and move the basketball make him an attractive free agent for many teams.

On defense, Randle is perfectly made for the modern NBA game. He's athletic and versatile enough to switch off onto smaller, quicker guards. But he's also willing to bang inside and protect the rim when need be. He can play at the four and he slides in nicely as a small ball five.

The Lakers decision to re-sign Randle will come down to how much other teams are willing to offer him. The Lakers would love to have him back, but they likely won't re-sign him if it means they are jeopardizing their cap space for max free agents.
