On Wednesday evening, the Los Angeles Lakers improved to 7-2 with a narrow home win over the San Antonio Spurs. It was another great game for Luka Doncic, who scored 42 points to go along with 13 assists and nine rebounds, and has continued to establish himself as the early frontrunner for the league MVP award.
One of Doncic's most impressive passes occurred in the second quarter of this game, when he was double teamed on the baseline and somehow was able to find Rui Hachimura open near the top of the arc. Hachimura then promptly buried the three-pointer, giving the Lakers the lead.

It was just one example of the otherworldly playmaking that Doncic brings to the table on a nightly basis for the Lakers, playmaking that the Dallas Mavericks sure wish they had right about now, as their team currently sits with the worst offense in the entire NBA landscape.
The Mavericks' 2-6 start to this season hasn't helped Nico Harrison convince fans to buy into his “vision,” which he claimed included banking on the less than two percent lottery odds that ultimately landed the team Cooper Flagg.
A hot start for the Lakers

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been rolling as of late, currently sitting at 7-2 on the young season. Doncic has resumed playing at an MVP level since returning from injury, and Austin Reaves, who has been out of the lineup for the last two games, is continuing to look like one of the best third options in the NBA.
It will be interesting to see how things shift once LeBron James is back in the lineup from his injury. While James of course is still an elite NBA player, it's possible that the Lakers will need to do some readjusting to their offensive approach once he's back in the lineup, which could temporarily set the team back, even if it means they'll be better suited to win in the long run.
In any case, the Lakers will next take the floor on Saturday evening against the Atlanta Hawks.
