The Los Angeles Lakers are having a painful 2021-22 NBA season, to say the least. They have failed to come anywhere close to their preseason expectations and seem likely to have an early from the playoffs this year. On Tuesday night, though, during yet another excruciating loss for the Lakers–this one to the Milwaukee Bucks– Lakers superstar LeBron James was able to take a little bit of his frustration out on Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo with this vicious dunk:
4-TIME MVP dunks on 2-TIME MVP! 🙀
LeBron and the #Lakers are down big vs. Giannis and the #Bucks.
Can LA recover?

To be fair, the Lakers haven't technically lost the game yet, but as of writing this, they are sitting at 24 points behind Milwaukee midway through the third quarter. This game has simply been a microcosm of the Lakers season. There was unjustified hype for a team that predictably had no shooting or young fresh legs. The extremely old Lakers must take a look in the mirror this offseason and get down to the basics on what it will take to build a team around LeBron and Anthony Davis.

The team already knows that LeBron's clock is ticking as he is the oldest starter in the NBA today and even though he has played some of the best basketball of his career when healthy, he hasn't completed anywhere close to a full 82-game season since he arrived in LA. That was to be expected from an aging veteran. What the team didn't expect was that Davis would end up missing even more time than LeBron since the two were brought together. The best ability is availability and Davis hasn't shown that he can do that consistently.
Those are all issues for after the season, however. Right now, the Lakers are sitting two days away from the trade deadline with little chance to improve their team because of limited assets. The rest-of-season outlook in LA is bleak, but hey, at least LeBron still dunked on Giannis…
