A hundred thousand dollars are no chump change, but let Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James demonstrate how easy it is to dispense such an amount for a wealthy pro athlete just like him.
Unlike other celebrities, though, James recently spent $100,000 not to buy a new luxury car nor to purchase a bunch of jewelry. Instead, he donated the money to his high school, St. Vincent-St. Mary, in Akron, Ohio. And we would not have probably known about it if not for Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
Article Continues BelowIn addition to his foundation’s support of a new school for at-risk kids in Akron, LeBron James recently gave his high school a $100,000 check. There was no formal announcement. He also gave the school $1M in 2013.
James was recently in Akron to grace the opening of his I Promise School, and based on Windhorst’s report, also took advantage of his presence in the area to give back to his high school.
Earlier this month, LeBron James signed a rich four-year, $153.3 million deal with the Lakers, prompting another chapter in the 33-year-old forward’s legendary basketball career.
James began turning the public’s heads as a high school phenom for the St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish, leading the school’s varsity team to multi-state titles before declaring for the 2003 NBA Draft.
