The unbridled power of the LeBron James-Anthony Davis pairing for the Los Angeles Lakers was on full display on Saturday, as they led LA to a crucial Game 3 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Following the game, James opened up about his unique partnership with Davis, as well as the reason behind their success.
“When you know yourself and you’re confident in what you do and you know what you represent, there’s no ego,” the Lakers star said, via Ben Golliver of The Washington Post. “We want both of us to succeed. We want our families to be happy and each other to be as happy as possible.”
It's hard to argue against LeBron's statement here, especially after he combined with Davis for 67 points on Saturday and powered their team to a 116-108 win over Portland.
James had his best scoring output of the series in Game 3, pouring in a game-high 38 points on 11-of-18 shooting. He also registered 12 rebounds, eight assists and two steals for the Lakers.
For his part, Davis was also outstanding, finishing with 29 points on 11-of-18 from the floor, 11 boards, eight assists, two steals and three blocks.
The moment Anthony Davis joined the Lakers last summer, many were quick to name him and LeBron James as one of the greatest pairings in NBA history. It hasn't taken long for these two future Hall of Famers to prove this notion correct, and they are now presented with an opportunity to back this claim up with some silverware.
