LeBron James and Anthony Davis powered the Los Angeles Lakers to a win in Game 3 of their first-round series on Thursday, but L.A. owes its team success to another factor.

The Lakers reached the 85 percent vaccination threshold earlier this week. Wednesday marked the first time the players were able to share team facilities, notably the film room. Players were also permitted to do so without masks.

Multiple Lakers players told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports it returned a vital sense of normalcy to the locker room:

“You don’t realize how important and productive it is to have film sessions in an intimate setting until you lose it,” one Lakers player said, via Haynes. “When guys are together in close proximity, you’re much more engaged, and especially when you don’t have to wear a mask.”

It appears the Lakers are starting to feel like they are getting their rhythm back. A sense of normalcy achieved by reaching the vaccination threshold has seemed to ease some of the pressure on the defending champions.

This is an interesting note from Haynes and some players within the Lakers locker room Point guard Dennis Schroder has expressed open skepticism regarding the vaccine, with James' avoidance of a possible suspension also a big storyline after he attending a swanky party with Drake and Michael B. Jordan. LeBron has been mum about whether he is vaccinated.

Regardless, the Lakers seemed to exhibit total synergy on Thursday. James and Davis worked well in tandem while Andre Drummond hilariously impersonated James from the bench. Schroder even did push-ups after taking a Flagrant 2 foul from Devin Booker.

The Lakers have their championship swagger back, in part because they are getting 2019-20 vibes after reaching the vaccination threshold.
