After a tough stretch for the Los Angeles Lakers in which the team lost Kobe Bryant to a tragic helicopter accident, the storied franchise is trying to get back on track while honoring the future Hall of Famer. LeBron James has taken a step in the right direction to do just that with some positive news.

On Tuesday, LeBron was named the NBA's Western Conference Player of the Month for the games played in January. The three-time NBA champion becomes the first Lakers player to achieve this feat since Kobe back in 2013.

James helped lead the Lakers to an impressive 10-4 record during the month of January while putting up solid numbers across the board. The superstar forward came close to averaging a triple-double for the month with 25.4 points, 10.4 assists, and 8.1 rebounds per game. He also shot an incredible 50.4 percent from the field in the 13 games played while also dishing out double-digit assists in eight of those games.

Perhaps one of the most impressive things LeBron has been able to do this season is what he's been able to do to get his teammates involved. James is currently leading the NBA in assists per game at 10.7 (career-high) with second-guard Trae Young trailing the veteran forward in the category at 9.0 per contest. LeBron also matched a career-high total in assists during January with 19 against the Orlando Magic.

LeBron has been given this monthly award an NBA record 39 times during the course of his career. However, this is the first time he's earned Western Conference Player of the Month after spending the majority of his career in the Eastern Conference.

Fellow Lakers forward Anthony Davis was a nominee for Western Conference Player of the Month along with Devin Booker, Luka Doncic, Rudy Gobert, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, and Russell Westbrook.
