Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and his business partner, Maverick Carter, have started negotiating an equity sale that could dramatically raise the value of SpringHill Co., their media company behind “Space Jam: A New Legacy.” The deal could see LeBron's net worth move one step closer, if not beyond, the billion-dollar mark.

Per Variety (via The Information): “SpringHill Co., led by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, is in early discussions with a range of potential investors to sell a piece of the media and entertainment firm that would value it at upwards of $750 million.

The inbound interest in SpringHill has ranged across industries. Parties that have engaged with SpringHill on a potential deal have included Nike, as well as streaming-video providers and tech companies, according to a source familiar with the talks.”

In January, Forbes predicted The King would surpass the $1 billion threshold by the end of 2021. When he does, James will join an elite group of athletes in the Billionaire's Club: Michael Jordan, Lionel Messi, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods, Floyd Mayweather, and Christiano Ronaldo.

SpringHill is one of the fastest-growing power-players in entertainment, with a slew of ongoing projects and deals with streamers and Hollywood studios, including Universal, Warner Bros., Netflix, and Amazon. Earlier this year, James and Carter raised $100 million for SpringHill. “Space Jam: A New Legacy” drops this Friday, you may have heard.

James' portfolio has boomed over the past decade. LeBron owns hundreds of millions in equity in Beats by Dre, thanks to the company's $3 billion sale to Apple in 2014. He has lucrative endorsement deals with PepsiCo., AT&T, Walmart, GMC, among other brands. And, of course, that nifty $1 billion lifetime contract with Nike.

Fenway Sports Group, of which James is a long-time shareholder, recently approved a deal that made LeBron and Carter the first Black owners of the Boston Red Sox. James acquired a two percent share in Liverpool FC via FSG, which is now worth $50 million.

Oh, and James has netted nearly $350 million from his day job and has $85 million remaining on his deal with the Lakers.
