Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma, who started in place of Anthony Davis, exploded in the opening minutes of their win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. LeBron James was impressed by the young gun's performance, even pointing out one particular play that showcased Kuzma's evolution.

Per Mike Trudell of Spectrum Sportsnet, James expressed his belief that the game is looking different for Kuzma.

Below is the play that the Lakers leader pointed out. Instead of going up for an easy layup or slam, Kyle Kuzma made the extra pass to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. For James, it was the right play.

In the Lakers' 127-91 victory, Kuzma finished with 20 points, three rebounds, three assists and three blocks. He did most of his damage in the first quarter where he dropped 14 points, including three straight 3-pointers and a couple of defensive plays. Kuzma was definitely feeling it on Sunday night.

Kuzma's performance definitely pleased the Lakers faithful, who have been extra hard on him the past few months. Many have criticized his inconsistency and poor defense. Their negative feelings over the Utah product were aroused when he inked a three-year, $40 million extension with the team.

But from the looks of it, Kuzma is showing everyone why he's a key piece to the Lakers' title run last year. And in this year's title defense, Kuzma is again on a mission to prove everyone wrong.

The Lakers now improve to 2-1 in the young season. On Monday, LeBron James and Co. will face the Portland Trail Blazers who are looking for their second win of the season. After which, they will face the San Antonio Spurs.
