Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has kept a clean wrap sheet over the course of his career, never giving reporters much to feed on. However, the King had a minor lapse in judgement over the weekend.
As he often does, James decided to share a song with his followers on social media. Most of the time, this is no big deal, as he's known to be a connoisseur of hip-hop music. This time, however, the lyrics carried a suggestive meaning.
The lyrics that James posted, which come from a song called “ASMR” by hip-hop artist 21 Savage, included the line, “We been getting that Jewish money, Everything is Kosher.”
Obviously, those words carry stereotypical undertones. James recognized this right away and decided to send out an apology.

I always [post lyrics]. That's what I do. I ride in my car, I listen to great music, and that was the byproduct of it. So I actually thought it was a compliment, and obviously it wasn't through the lens of a lot of people. My apologies. It definitely was not the intent, obviously, to hurt anybody.”
According to ESPN, the NBA has no plans to fine James, who has nearly 46 million followers on his Instagram account.
James tells ESPN that he thought the lyric was complementary, but the simple fact is: the Jewish community has been dealing with this stereotype for years.
