Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James admitted that he cried when Michael Jordan retired in 1993.
James looked at Jordan as his hero — someone who inspired him to get through the tough times. So when Jordan bid farewell to the game, the Lakers star was a little lost.
LeBron spoke with Mav Carter and Paul Rivera on Uninterrupted to discuss “The Last Dance.” During Episodes 7 and 8 of the docuseries, James shared via Twitter that he cried on the day that Jordan announced his retirement. Rivera brought up the tweet and James narrated how Jordan became that “angel sent from heaven” for him.
“Michael Jordan was that guy. He was that angel sent from heaven… I kinda used him to help me get through the dark days,” the Lakers superstar shared.
“Every other day whenever I get an opportunity on WGN to watch Mike, it gave me another boost of life. It made me feel that I can get make it through this situation.”

James recalled what his headspace was like when Jordan retired for the first time. Seeing his idol leave the game disoriented him a bit. He didn't know what to do next with his hero gone.
“And when he decided to give it up after winning that third title versus Phoenix, what can I do? I don't know what to do,” LeBron james furthered.
“Okay, without Mike, what can I do now? Who is going to be my inspiration? And that brought tears to my eyes.”
It's a touching story by James. Everyone knows that he wears the number 23 because of Jordan. But now, everyone knows how much the Lakers forward venerated His Airness.
Sure enough, LeBron is doing everything he can to honor the name of Jordan by creating his own legacy and inspiring the younger generation — just like what MJ did for him.
