Los Angeles Lakers guard Lonzo Ball is about to enter Year 2 of his NBA career after a polarizing rookie season in the pros. Ball is focused on making his sophomore campaign in the league more memorable and for him to achieve that, he needs to have his body right in time for the start of the 2018-19 NBA season.

According to Mike Trudell of ESPN, Ball believes that he’s back to full health after dealing with injuries last season.

In his first season in the NBA, Ball appeared in only 52 games, missing 30 contests mostly because of ailments. He dealt with shoulder and knee issues last season and also went under the knife in the offseason to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.

Although the former UCLA Bruins star is optimistic of his availability for the Lakers’ season opener, Los Angeles has no reason to rush Lonzo Ball back into action. For one, they just signed veteran court general Rajon Rondo in the summer to act as Ball’s mentor and likely as the team’s starting point guard.

Aside from recuperating from a recent surgery, Ball is also spending the offseason to work on his much-maligned jump shot. Last season, Ball shot just 36.0 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from behind the arc. Moreover, he also knocked down just 45.1 percent of his free throws.

The Lakers will open their 2018-19 NBA season schedule on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers on October 18.
